Are you concerned about the state of our democracy?

Do you want government to be more representative?

Attend a Knit Democracy Together maker circle!

Join us even if you don’t knit or crochet.

Gather with civically minded knitters and crafters to deepen your understanding of the electoral system. Artist and former election lawyer Eve Jacobs-Carnahan will boost your understanding of the electoral system and engage you in discussion about ways to strengthen democracy.

While gaining new insights, you’ll be able to make pieces of a collaborative sculpture of the Massachusetts State House.

Come to one or more event. Two topics. Two libraries.

Registration encouraged. All events are free. Sponsored by Boston Public Library.

Representing All Voices: Alternatives to Gerrymandering and Winner-Take-All Primaries

Jamaica Plain Branch, Boston Public Library

30 South St., Jamaica Plain, MA

Do our elected officials really speak for us? Why is there such a difference between public opinion on issues and the legislation that gets passed?

Artist and former election lawyer Eve Jacobs-Carnahan will give a nonpartisan presentation and lead a discussion about the electoral system. You’ll learn how distortions in redistricting deprive voters of a voice and why we should care about gerrymandering in far-away states. You’ll find out why winner-take-all primaries increase partisan divisions and learn about alternatives that are used in cities and states around the country.
